Kajal Agarwal was born in Mumbai (19 June 1985), India to Suman Agarwal and Vinay Agarwal. Kajal Agarwal has a sister named Nisha Agarwal who has also begun to act in Telugu movies. Kajal Agarwal finished her studies in Mumbai. Kajal Agarwal started her modeling career while she was in college.. Kajal Agarwal first starred in a minor suppoting role in a Hindi film, before entering the Telugu film industry with Lakshmi Kalyanam. Kajal Agarwal had her first commercial success Telugu film Chandamama and rose to prominence after her performance in the 2009 Telugu film Magadheera, which remains the highest grossing Telugu film all of time.

Kajal Agarwal made her acting debut in the 2004 Hindi film Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na, in which Kajal Agarwal enacted a minor supporting role as the friend of Diya, the film’s lead, played by Aishwarya Rai.Kajal Agarwal got her next acting offer only 3 years later, which was veteran Tamil director Bharathiraja’s Bommalattam. The film, however, got delayed and released only in late 2008.


Kajal Agarwal made her debut in the Telugu film industry and played her first leading role in Teja's Lakshmi Kalyanam(2007), alongside Kalyan Ram, which did not do well at the box office. Later the next year, Kajal Agarwal appeared in the Krishna Vamsi-directed film Chandamama (2007), which became her first major successful film.

In 2008, Kajal Agarwal had her first Tamil-language film release, which was Perarasu’s action entertainer Pazhani, co-starring Bharath. Following this film, Kajal Agarwal had two more Tamil releases that year with Venkat Prabhu’s comedy-thriller Saroja, in which Kajal Agarwal did a guest appearance, and finally Bharathiraja’s investigative thriller Bommalattam. Although the former went on to become a commercial as well as a critical success, both films failed to boost her career as her roles were too insignificant. Both her Telugu released the next year, Pourudu (2008) and Aatadista opposite Sumanth and Nitin, respectively, neither received positive reviews nor were successul at the box office.

In 2009 Kajal Agarwal had four releases, three of which were in Telugu. Kajal Agarwal only Tamil film that year, which was Saran’s Modhi Vilayadu, released first and garnered mixed reviews. Next, she starred in Magadheera, in which she essayed double roles for the first time. The film, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, received universal critical acclaim. Kajal, particularly, was praised for her portrayal of a princess, Yuvarani Mithravindha, in the film. The film was also commercially successful and broke several records,emerging as the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time.Following Magadheera’s phenomenal success, Kajal became one of the most sought-after actresses in the Telugu film industry, catapulting Kajal Agarwal into the main foray of lead Telugu actresses. After magadheera she had gone through Ganesh Just Ganesh (2009), Arya 2 (2009), Om Shanti (2010), Darling (2010), Brindaavanam (2010), Mr.Perfect (2011).
